Birds Barbershop
Brand Systems / Environmental Design / Campaigns
When I first met the founders of Birds Barbershop in 2006, it was an empty space and a big idea for a different kind of barbershop/salon. They understood the business — and I helped define how it would show up. From the beginning, I built the brand’s voice, identity, and in-store experience to feel unapologetically Austin, shaped around the people who actually live here. Today, Birds is an iconic Austin institution, woven into the daily lives of the community it was built for.
THE LOGO
I’ve designed and illustrated 20 years worth of imagery for Birds, and have integrated it into posters, in-store murals, merchandise, and more.
Animated Icons: Bringing Birds to Life
“Bryan is a total typeface nerd with an unbelievable sense of visual iconography. Both our companies' logos came from his classically modern inkwell, as did multiple large scale mural installations. We owe a lot of our brands' depth to Bryan, and will work with him until he gets too famous for us.”
— Michael Portman, Co-Founder of Birds Barbershop & Verb Products

In close partnership with architectural and interior design teams, I have created the interior mural artwork at four Birds Barbershops around Austin. Each one has a distinct theme, color palette, and graphic style and reflects the intersection of Austin and Birds culture.

I’ve enjoyed following the Birds team to see how they utilize, remix, and feature my logo and illustration work to help promote the brand day-to-day.
